Are you doing okay?

I wanted to take a minute and ask how your day was.

Have you eaten?

Three square meals?

I’m not one to talk — usually two is my deal.

How is school going?

How are you performing in class?

I know sometimes it can be hard to focus

While containing all that sass.

How are your friends treating you?

Do you know the real from the fake?

Have you scoped out the ones who give

Versus the ones who only take?

Are they supportive, uplifting, and motivated like you?

Are they good people to have around?

Do they want to be leaders

Or just follow the crowd?

How’s your home life?

Are there people you can depend on?

Is there someone to look after you —

Someone to help you along?

Has someone told you they love you?

I hope you know it’s true:

Even if we never meet,

My heart is filled with love for you.

Just wanted to check in

And let you know that someone cares.

I know sometimes it can be tough

Being a young Black girl out there.

But that’s why we’re here —

To band together as one,

To talk to one another, encourage one another,

And together we’ll shine as bright as the sun!
